Poppies come in many forms and colours, but red poppies are the simplest of them all, making them perfect for beginners to paint.

The petals are big and blousy, and in this class we’ll capture their stripy visual texture to show the way they curve and give form to the flower. We’ll also give our petals a silky sheen, and to do this, we’ll use a range of tones.

The contrasting centre is detailed and dark, and adds lots of depth to the poppy, so we can make it look really 3D. This is going to be really fun! Let’s start.
